Just been watching Ashes to Ashes. A nice hour long wander along the 80’s memory lane. You know how everything seems bigger when you were young? Well that’s because lots of things were bigger. Phones, video players, hair. Its strange how familiar yet alien everything looks. It’s not just the cars and everyday objects but everything that surrounds us. Music, sounds, phrases, billboards, buildings, jackets. Yet, when does this stuff change. You hardly notice it. The 80’s didn’t suddenly become the 90’s and I didn’t notice the millenium bug wipe out the 90’s. Yet it’s happened. Totally. In four or five years we will be laughing our so cool 2011 socks off at the sight of an iphone. And Facebook will be SO for the oldies. Okay, it probably already is. Funny thing is we are all still drawn back. Nostalgia is a sickening afterall. And it sells. I would definately swap some future time to revisit my life in the 80’s again. Maybe even a year. Definately a week or so. Now there’s an idea that could sell. A holiday where you get to spend a week where everything is back in the 80’s or 70’s. Butlin’s eat your heart out.

Last Monday (21st Jan) is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. They’ve even done the maths to prove it.
The formula for the day of misery reads 1/8W+(D-d) 3/8xTQ MxNA.
Where W is weather, D is debt - minus the money (d) due on January’s pay day - and T is the time since Christmas; Q is the failed attempt to quit a bad habit; M is general motivational levels, and NA is the need to take action and have something to look forward to.
But not for me. I took the day off work and went windsurfing. I wasn’t the only one. There must have been more than ten of us. Spontaneous souls brought together by the wind. Okay, so it rained a bit. But it was warm. It was windy. There were waves. There were some familiar, old faces. And there was a new board to try. Between us I’m sure we managed to counter-balance the rest of the country being depressed. So those clever clogs are going to have to do their sums again. January 21st will now have to go down as one of the happiest days of the year.
(Me+wind+friends)-work= good time. And thats official.
